Our Summer Reading pro gram kicks off this week! This 3-month long program is the perfect opportunity for parents to encourage their kiddos to continue to read over the summer, and for those kiddos to also be incentivized to read through earning prizes!

Earlier this month, Business & Marketing Librarian Kelly Butorac and Arts, Humanities, and Digital Humanities Librarian Bonnie Finn both attended national conferences to meet up and learn from academic librarians from across the country! Here is a recap of both of their experiences.

Two young women sit at a white table smiling, holding up circular crafts they've made. The table has scissors, string, glue, and other crafting materials scattered around. The background shows more tables and chairs in a bright room.

The end of Spring semester is always a bittersweet one – we’re thrilled for those who are moving on from CSB+SJU, and that summer is here (to be honest), but we’re also sad to see another year come and gone. A few highlights from Spring semester are below,

A large crowd of people, many dressed in suits and dresses, gathers outside a modern honeycomb-patterned building on a sunny day. Older brick buildings and trees are visible in the background.

Today, May 7th, 2026, marks the 60th anniversary of the dedication of Alcuin Library. The vision for this landmark was regularly on the horizon as the old library, once located in Wimmer Hall, quickly became too small and cramped as the campus grew in population and need.

Students sit at rows of desks with computers in a classroom, attentively watching two people present slides on a large screen at the front of the room. One presenter points at the screen while the other stands nearby.

Every semester, the Nursing program at CSB+SJU sends a cohort of students into the field for global health clinical experiences in Nursing 303: Clinical Nursing IV – ranging from the local Saint Cloud area to locations across the globe. These experiences are designed to sharpen clinical decision-making and deepen students’ understanding of cultural competency and global health systems.

Two people stand between microphones in a modern room with large windows. One is holding papers, and they appear to be talking. Leafless trees and a concrete building are visible outside. Red chairs are in the foreground.

On Tuesday, April 28th, CSB+SJU faculty and staff gathered for our 2nd Annual Celebrating Faculty & Staff Scholarship Spring Soiree! We toasted to all scholarship and creative works – journal articles, presentations, and performances, to name a few – published or performed within the last year, May 2025 – April 2026. (Nearly 500 in total!)

It’s nearly impossible to sum up a semester’s worth of work – from 21 library staff across both libraries! – in one short blog post, but what’s a blog writer to do? Here’s my best attempt at sharing our favorite moments and accomplishments from the last few months. Numbers and statistics only tell a portion of the story, let’s dig a little deeper, shall we?

UNESCO defines OER as “learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others”

New Year! New You! With our new year and spring semester kicking off, so are we with some new available items to fuel your creative outlet!

Each Spring, 50 librarians from around the country are invited to come together for one week to learn about supporting evidence synthesis. This year, I had the honor of joining the March 2026 cohort. Here are some things I learned:

This Veteran’s Day, we’re recognizing those who have fought for and served our country by shining a light on a collaborative project between CSB+SJU Librarians and CSB+SJU Instructional Technology Specialists – the “Ethics in War” video assignment with Dr. Christi Siver’s Political Science “Ethics in War” course.

Your library staff, along with the faculty, can reduce this overall cost through a deep scrutiny of course materials.  In doing this we’re trying to make college more affordable, and that’s something that students tell us is very important to them.

Banned Books Week is an annual holiday by the American Library Association (ALA) (okay, maybe not a real holiday but one that I celebrate every year!).

A round red and white pin reading "Homecoming 1929" is attached by a red ribbon to a gold medal featuring an embossed football player in action.

Though the word was not used, the first Saint John’s “homecoming,” in the sense of a campus event to which alumni were explicitly invited, may have been in October 1882.
