Academic Advising

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University Academic Advising Office advises undergraduate students about their academic interests, degree requirements, course registration and degree plans. Advisors help students make meaning of their academic experiences and support the development of strong academic skills.

CSB+SJU utilizes a faculty-based advising system. Incoming first-year students are assigned a Primary Faculty Advisor who they work with during their entire first year in college. The Academic Advising Office provides additional academic advising, support, and resources for students who want to:

  • Draft a 4-year plan
  • Plan for course registration
  • Develop more effective study skills and habits
  • Explore options for potential majors, minors or future careers
  • Address academic challenges related to leaves of absence, illness, incomplete grades, or other academic difficulties

In college, independence includes knowing when to ask questions and seek support. The Academic Advising Office is here to talk through your goals, interests and priorities. In collaboration with your primary faculty advisor, we can help you create academic plans that align with your goals. Scheduling a 30-minute appointment with an academic advisor is a great way to work through procedural and technical questions about registration and make sure you are on track for graduation.
