SJU Soccer Constitution

Article I: Name and Purpose

Section I: Stickworks FC

Section 2: Purpose/Mission

A.     To promote physical, mental, and social fitness on campus.

B.     To promote the experience of intercollegiate athletics regardless of skill level or competitiveness.

C.     To promote sportsmanship, leadership, and camaraderie to the members of the team.    

Article II: Membership               

Section 1:  Eligibility for Membership               

The Stickworks FC shall be open to any CSB/SJU student willing to compete in the sport of soccer.  Any participant deemed a full member is eligible for voting for club officers and activities.                  

Section 2: Voting Member Criteria               

In order to be a full member of the club, the participant must attend 2/3 of the practices, games, and meetings.  If 3/5 of the current voting members vote to make a participant a full member at their discretion, they may be allowed to vote.                   

Section 3: Removal of Members              

A member may be removed from the Stickworks FC if 3/5 of the other members of the club vote to remove them.  After being notified by email, that member will have 10 days to submit a request to remain a part of the club.  At the meeting they will have a chance to state their case to the club.  If ½ of the members in attendance vote to continue with the removal of the member, they will be permanently removed from the Stickworks FC.  

Article III: Officers                 

Section 1: Officer Qualifications               

Any club member may be eligible to be an officer as long as they are current CSB/SJU students and they have been on the team for at least one season.                 

Section 2: Elected Officers               

President/Team Captain- the main contact person and the contact for the CFB and JCB, Vice-President/Team Captain, Team Captain, Team Captain, Team Captain.                 

Section 3: Duties of Officers               

President- preside at all meetings, call any special meetings, primary contact with institutions, run election process, schedule games, keeps track of financial records, submits monthly audit statements to CFB contact, makes budget/allocation requests.                              

Vice-President- assumes president's duties in his absence, schedules practices and facilities, plans member/officer training programs.                 

Team Captains- organize and run practices.                 

Section 4: Vacancy in Office               

If a vacancy in office should occur, a special election shall be held as described in Article IV Section 3.  Until a new officer is elected, the current officers will take on the tasks of the vacant office as such in an officer succession/"chain of command".                 

Section 5: Removal of Officers               

A petition to remove the officer in question must be submitted to another officer.  This petition must contain signatures of 60% of voting members.  When such petition is received, the officer shall call a meeting of the club to determine whether or not the officer shall be removed.                               

Grounds for removal are then presented by the officer in charge at a regular or special club meeting.  The officer in question shall be provided an opportunity to present a defense either in person or in writing.  A quorum shall be present, and a majority vote of the voting members shall decide upon removal.                  

Section 6: Appeal of Removal of Officers               

To appeal a removal from office, an officer will have 10 days to submit a request for review to one of the other officers.  If completed, in the next meeting or in a special meeting in which at least 12 members are present the members and officer will discuss the reason(s) for their removal.  The meeting will be put to a vote.  If a majority vote is in favor of keeping the officer removed, the officer will no longer be an officer for the Stickworks FC.   

Article IV: Elections                 

Section 1: Nomination Process               

A member of the Stickworks FC may be nominated to be an officer by himself.  This nomination must take place at the official end of the year meeting.                

 Section 2: Election               

The elections of officers for the following year will be held at the end of every academic year in the spring semester. The elections will be done at the official end of the year meeting.  Voting will only take place if 2/3 of the members of the club are present.  A secret ballot will be held and counted by the current president at the meeting to elect new officers.  The newly elected officers will be announced at the meeting and will become active officers at the end of the academic year.                  

Section 3: Special Elections              

If an officer leaves or is removed from office, a special election will be held to find a member to replace him.  If no appeal is submitted after the 10 day period, a special meeting will be held to vote for a new officer.  However, if an appeal is submitted and the officer is still removed, a secret ballot vote will be held at the meeting after the officer is dismissed.  The newly elected officer will take on the duties of the old officer after this meeting.  

Article V: Advisor                              

Section 1: Selection               

The officers will meet to agree on the faculty advisor of Stickworks FC.  The president will designate the advisor with the input of the other officers based on who they believe can help the club operate in the most efficient manner.                              

Section 2: Duties               

The advisor will look over the club's yearly budget and offer financial advice, meet with the executive board when necessary, encourage and challenge the club to grow and be the best it can be, and promote the club to other faculty members.   Section 1: Regular Meeting/Club Activities

The club will have meetings or practices at least once a week.  The scheduling of these meetings will be done by the president and email notification will be sent to all members.              

Section 2: Special Meetings               

Special meetings may be called in the event of the removal or appeal of a removed officer or club member.  These meetings will be run as a normal meeting.  A special meeting may be called by any officer.                 

Section 3: Parliamentary Authority                

Stickworks FC will use Robert's Rules of Order at all meetings.  They will be run by the club president.                  

Section 4: Quorum               

2/3 of the voting members must be present in order for official club business to occur.  

Article VII: Committees                              

Section 1: Committee Structure               

Committees will be decided and organized by the club president when deemed necessary.  The structure and members of each committee will be decided by the president.  Any committee and committee members may be changed by a 2/3 vote of the active members of the club.               

Section 2: Special/Ad-Hoc Committees               

Special/ad-hoc committees may be formed if needed.   Article VIII: Finances                              

Section 1: Co-Funding Board               

Stickworks FC will apply for CFB funding at the beginning of every year.  The club will follow all policies of the CFB.                 

Section 2: Honorariums               

No honorariums will be given unless decided by ¾ of the active members.  This will be met on a case by case basis.                 

Section 3: Dues               

Members are required to pay if they wish to play in games.  They may come to practices and scrimmages, but all members playing in games will pay $10.00 in dues.  Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the officers.  

Article IX:                              

Section 1: Ratification               

The constitution may be amended effective immediately if at a meeting 2/3 of the voting members vote to amend it.                 

  Section 2: Submittal to Department of Student Activities and Joint Club Board               

Any changes made to this constitution will be submitted to the Department of Student Activities and the JCB.  

Article X:

Stickworks FC admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.  

Article XI:                              

Stickworks FC considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization.  Stickworks FC recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
