Scholarship and creativity come together on May 1

April 25, 2025 • 2 min read

The 25th annual Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University is scheduled for Thursday, May 1. The event is an annual opportunity for students, faculty and staff to showcase significant research, scholarship and creative projects.

According to Trisa Schaeffer, senior associate director for the Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholars (OURS) at the two schools, this year’s event will feature nearly 700 presenters highlighting 226 individual projects.

The day will begin with a CSC Day Kickoff Celebration at 8:15 a.m. in Gorecki 204 on the CSB campus at which numerous scholars, including the CSC Day Spotlight Recipients, Distinguished Thesis Scholars and this year’s winner of the Outstanding Thesis Award, will be recognized.

The large poster session, in which attendees will be able to view projects and interact with presenters from across a variety of disciplines, will follow from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Gorecki 204. Concurrent sessions at various locations across the two campuses will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through 5 p.m.

New this year, the day will conclude from 5-6:30 p.m. with a faculty and staff social in the upper level of the Alcuin Library at SJU. The event – jointly sponsored by CSB+SJU Libraries and Archives, the Office of Research and Grants and OURS – will be a chance to celebrate faculty and staff scholarship and creative works published, presented, exhibited or performed between July 2023 and the present.

The faculty and staff social will also include the introduction and presentation of two new annual awards that celebrate collaborative relationships with the CSB+SJU Libraries and Archives. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served, there will be short remarks and a champagne toast beginning at 5:30 p.m.

A full schedule of events can be found on my.csbsju.edu.

As in past years, classes will not be in session that day, allowing students to attend CSC Day events.

“CSC Day is a vibrant reflection of the intellectual curiosity, passion and dedication that define our CSB and SJU community,” said Schaeffer. “It’s inspiring to see nearly 700 students boldly share their ideas, research and creative work across so many disciplines. This day is also a celebration of the many mentors, faculty, staff and community partners whose guidance and support make these student achievements – and this event – possible.”
