Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I chose to study abroad because I wanted to broaden my perspectives and gain a better understanding of the world around me. I wanted to learn about different cultures as well. Rome was the perfect place for me to study abroad because I was able to take classes in all of my areas of study: Global Business Leadership, Anthropology, and Nutrition. Rome is also just so beautiful and full of rich culture and history.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.
One of my favorite parts of being in Rome was getting to know the locals. We built connections with some of the workers at the grocery stores, coffee shops, and gelato shops we visited regularly, which made it feel more like home. They would encourage us to speak Italian and kindly help us when we made mistakes, which I truly appreciated.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
Studying abroad was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It pushed me to grow in so many ways, making me more independent, open-minded, and willing to take risks. The experience broadened my perspective on the world and shaped me into a more confident and adaptable person.
What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
My advice for those who are considering or planning to study abroad is to fully immerse yourself in the experience by stepping out of your comfort zone, connecting with the locals, and embracing new opportunities. Things won’t always go as planned, but that is part of the adventure and growth process, so stay adaptable and make the most of every moment.
