Students in the CSB/SJU Advanced Media Writing Class have developed a campaign to get the CSB/SJU community wearing red on Fridays.

This student-led campaign is designed to promote unity by encouraging students, faculty, staff, alumnae/i, monastics and the surrounding community to wear the iconic Bennie/Johnnie red each Friday.

Participants are also encouraged to post pictures of themselves wearing red on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #csbsjuFiREDup.

FiRED Up Fridays has been the focal point of spring semester for the CSB/SJU Advanced Media Writing class. The group of junior and senior students have worked to plan and launch the unique campaign they hope will make a lasting impact.

“It’s been a lot of work, but the results will be worth it,” said senior communication major and Advanced Media Writing student Elizabeth Schneider.

The FiRED Up Fridays taskforce is composed of Dana Drazenovich, instructor of communication at CSB/SJU and her students, plus an advisory group of representatives from CSB/SJU athletics, bookstores, admissions, institutional advancement and communication and marketing. Drazenovich and the taskforce provided feedback on plans and drafts to ensure students had a valuable learning experience while they strategized and created the FiRED Up campaign that starts March 31.

“It is so educational to take a course that allows the students to not only learn in an academic setting, but also practice starting and running a campaign in a real world setting,” said junior communication major and Advanced Media Writing student Molly Cashman.

The students who created FiRED Up Fridays are passionate about building unity among all Bennies and Johnnies and hope that wearing red together will be a fun way to create excitement about the CSB/SJU extended family.

“To walk around campus on Friday’s and see everyone showing their CSB/SJU pride will be an incredible thing,” said senior communication major and Advanced Media Writing student Morgan McCormack.
