Meal Plan Information

Student meal plans include combinations of meal passes and dining bucks that provide flexibility in campus dining. The Continuous plan also includes guest passes and a daily retail meal exchange that add value and variety and allow you to connect with friends over a meal.

Meal passes provide access to The Refectory at Saint John’s University or Gorecki Center at the College of Saint Benedict. Meals at these locations are served buffet-style and are all-you-care-to-eat.
Dining bucks are prepaid declining balance funds that can be used to purchase additional meals at The Refectory or Gorecki Center or for a la carte purchases of food and non-alcoholic beverages at retail dining locations. Retail locations include Sexton Commons and The Schu at SJU and McGlynn’s and Clemens Perk at CSB.
Guest passes may be used to bring a guest for meals at The Refectory or Gorecki Center. You must be present to dine with your guest to use a guest pass.
Retail meal exchanges are designated meal combinations at Sexton Commons or McGlynn’s that may be obtained using a meal pass.

On-Campus Students or Off-Campus Students

SJU Continuous Plan $3410

This plan allows access to The Refectory and Gorecki Center during facility hours. 60 meal passes per semester may be used for a retail meal exchange at Sexton Commons or McGlynn’s. This plan includes $150 Dining bucks and 4 guest passes per semester. Because this is the most popular and preferred plan for students living in traditional residence halls, the community plan is automatically assigned to all students who are 1st or 2nd year students.

SJU Block 186 Plan $2870

This plan provides up to 186 meal passes per semester at The Refectory or Gorecki Center. Any or all of your meal passes may be used for retail meal exchanges at Sexton Commons or McGlynn’s. This plan includes $200 Dining bucks per semester.

SJU Block 150 Plan $2410

This plan provides up to 150 meal passes per semester at The Refectory or Gorecki Center. Any or all of your meal passes may be used for retail meal exchanges at Sexton Commons or McGlynn’s. This plan includes $200 Dining bucks per semester.

SJU Block 80 Plan $1380

This plan provides up to 80 meal passes per semester at The Refectory or Gorecki Center. Any or all meal passes may also be used for retail meal exchanges at Sexton Dining or McGlynn’s, or as guest passes. This plan includes $180 Dining bucks per semester.

SJU Block 32 Plan $590

This plan provides up to 32 meal passes per semester at The Refectory or Gorecki Center. Any or all meal passes may also be used for retail meal exchanges at Sexton Dining or McGlynn’s, or as guest passes. This plan includes $100 Dining bucks per semester.

SJU Bucks Only Plan $225

This plan includes $225 Dining bucks per semester.

Adding Funds

Dining bucks are prepaid, declining balance funds that can be used to purchase additional meals at The Refectory or Gorecki Center or a la carte food and non-alcoholic beverages at retail dining locations. Retail dining locations include Sexton Dining and The Schu at SJU and McGlynn’s and Clemens Perk at CSB.
Running low on dining bucks? Additional funds may be added through the GET app or by stopping by the Dining Service and Events office on the first floor of Wimmer Hall.

Nutrition and Allergy Information

Saint John’s University Dining Service’s nutrition philosophy is based on the belief that a healthy way of life can be achieved through exercise, nutrition and education. The goal of the SJU Dining Service’s nutrition philosophy is to optimize health by encouraging decisions based on food quality and moderation.

We encourage an approach to eating that promotes lifelong wellness and discourage the “dieting” mindset. We urge our guests to make sustainable dietary and lifestyle choices.
We feel that the best healthy eating plan emphasizes fresh, whole foods like vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, lean proteins and dairy/ dairy alternatives. These wholesome foods offer vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates while at the same time minimize excess calories, added sugars, saturated and trans fats, salt, additives and chemicals.
We promote mindful eating and portion-control as important components of achieving and maintaining the health of bodies and the local ecosystem. Choosing meals and snacks thoughtfully helps to minimize the amount of food that ends up in the trash or wasted in our bodies when we consume excess out of boredom, habit or convenience.
We acknowledge that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a process. While we wish for all of our guests to strive for healthy lifestyles and eating plans, we do not play the role of the “food police”. We recognize that appropriate portions and food choices are unique to each individual based on cultural heritage, family traditions and life experiences, and that healthy meal plans can include the occasional “treat”!
