Sigma Beta Delta inducts 26 students, honors alum leaders at annual ceremony

April 8, 2026 • 2 min read

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University inducted 26 students into Sigma Beta Delta on April 7, recognizing academic excellence in business while also honoring two distinguished alums for their professional achievements.

This was the 11th cohort of students to be inducted into Sigma Beta Delta, the highest national recognition a business student can receive at a college or university with a Sigma Beta Delta chapter.

In the 11 years of the CSB and SJU chapter’s existence, 317 students have been inducted, including those this year.

The local chapter also continued its practice of honoring graduates who have been successful in the business, management and administrative areas. Greg Schlaefer ’95, partner at Ernst & Young, and Angie Schmidt Whitney ’97, senior organizational development advisor at Sourcewell, were this year’s honorary inductees.

The newest cohort consisted of 19 SJU students and seven CSB students. Broken down by class, there were 10 seniors and 16 juniors recognized. By major, there were 13 accounting majors, seven finance majors and six global business leadership majors.

To be eligible for membership, a business student must rank in the top 20 percent of the junior or senior class and be invited to membership by the faculty officers.

Through the society, members can apply for scholarships, utilize networking opportunities and gain access to competitive scholarships.
