Summer Leadership Fellows
Congratulations ~ 2022 Summer Leadership Fellows Cohort
The Summer Leadership Fellows provides opportunities for students to engage in 10-week summer internships in non-profit and government organizations. Students represent the John Brandl Scholars, Fleischhacker Fellows, and Marie & Robert Jackson Fellows. Students with varying majors, interests, and experiences are selected through an application and interview process to be part of the Summer Leadership Fellows cohort. Each student selected for the program will receive $5,000 – subject to taxes and paid throughout the summer. Students may submit a secondary funding request to receive up to an additional $5,000. All majors are welcome to apply! Students may elect to register for and earn internship credits, although it is not required to receive the fellowship. Students are not eligible to receive funding for an internship that takes place after they graduate.
Expectations for the Internship:
- Each student must engage in a full-time (approximately 40 hour/week) internship for 10 weeks
- Each internship must have a designated site supervisor
- Internships must be in the government or non-profit sector working toward civic/community engagement and the common good
- Internships are not permitted with electoral political campaigns
- Students may be paid by their internship site
- Students are NOT eligible to participate in both the Summer Leadership Fellows and any placement internship program (i.e. Urban Scholars). Any participation in a placement program will result in removal from the Summer Leadership Fellows.
- A MANDATORY cohort training takes place after spring semester wraps up, typically the week after CSB+SJU commencement.

Past Program Cohort Information:
For additional information on past program cohorts, please visit the following:
John Brandl Scholars
The John Brandl Scholars program supports students pursuing public policy, government, and nonprofit internships focused on civic engagement and the common good. Scholars receive a paid summer fellowship to gain hands-on experience and professional mentorship.
Global Health Fellowship
The Global Health Fellowship empowers students to address health inequities by placing them in real-world public/global-health internships. Fellows receive funding (a summer grant) and work with nonprofits or health-oriented organizations — often applying language skills and engaging with global health issues.
Marie & Robert Jackson Fellowship
In 2008, the College of Saint Benedict received an anonymous gift to establish the Marie and Robert Jackson Fellows Program. Students with varying majors, interests, and experience are selected through an application and interview process to be part of a cohort of Jackson Fellows. Each Fellow serves at a community site for the summer. All fellowships involve civic engagement and work devoted to improving community life. The diversity of the site placements and the type of work and leadership required from each Jackson Fellow serves to create a rich, vibrant, and holistic learning environment.
Our Mission: To empower students with opportunities to serve the common good through community engagement, collective learning, and leadership and professional development.
