Social Studies Education
CSB/SJU students interested in teaching grades 5-12 history, government, economics, geography, psychology, and sociology should pursue a Social Studies major and Secondary Education minor. This licensure program includes a combination of courses in educational foundations, social studies methods, history and the social sciences, field experiences in middle and high school social studies classes, and a 16-week student teaching experience.

Admission to Social Studies Education
You will apply to be accepted to the Social Studies Education Program while in EDUC 310: Educational Psychology. Learn about the application process to the department and how to prepare.
Seeking Licensure
Professional Educator Standards and Licensing Board requires all students seeking Social Studies licensure in Minnesota to successfully complete the following assessments:
- Secondary History/Social Studies edTPA. This assessment is completed during student teaching. The cost of this assessment to students is $300. It is paid directly to Pearson.
- MTLE Examinations. Students typically take these exams near the end of the semester prior to student teaching. Registration and payment for exams is handled through Pearson.
