Katayoun Amjadi

Katayoun Amjadi is an Iranian-born, Minneapolis-based artist whose work explores identity, cultural displacement, and the tensions between tradition and modernity. A member of the generation of Iranian women who came of age amid post-revolutionary upheaval, she reflects on the loss and transformation that followed her immigration to the United States.
Through ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media, Amjadi examines the social constructs that define and divide—religion, gender, politics, and nationalism—seeking instead to blur these boundaries and create a balanced, hybrid perspective. Her art draws inspiration from early man-made forms, iconic cultural imagery, and prehistoric artifacts, probing how past and present intertwine in shaping both individual and collective identity.
Amjadi holds an MFA in Ceramics and Sculpture from the University of Minnesota. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally at venues including the Minnesota Museum of American Art, Rochester Art Center, Weisman Art Museum, Soap Factory, and 7Samar Gallery in Tehran. She is a two-time recipient of the Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant and currently maintains a studio in the Q.arma Building in Minneapolis’s Northeast Arts District.
