Aid Acceptance Instructions

If you apply for need based aid (FAFSA) you will receive an e-mail from the Financial Aid Office when your financial aid offer is complete. 

Instructions to view your financial aid award and accept loans

  1. Navigate to Banner Web Self Service
  2. Select "Student & Financial Aid Self Service"
  3. Click on "Financial Aid" 
  4. Select the correct academic year in the upper right-hand corner
  5. Click on "Award Offer" tab to review your financial aid
    1. Review your estimated costs.*Non-billable items will show in your Net Cost calculation, but are not items you are directly billed (unless you opt to charge bookstore purchases to your account). We are required to show non-billable items as potential costs you could have as a student. 
    2. Scroll down to "Work"
      • If you have not been offered work study, but are interested in working, contact the student employment office.
      • If offered work study:
        • Those interested in work study can select "Accept". *You will still need to apply for, and be offered a job position. Once you have obtained a job, complete the Notification of Hiring (NOH) form and student employment paperwork (see Student Employment for more information).
        • Those who have already secured a job/completed an NOH may see work has already been accepted
        • If you are NOT interested in an on-campus position, you can select "decline".
      • The work "accepted" amount will be updated to your specific position/hours per week by the student employment office once your NOH has been recieved and processed. Students are only paid for hours worked, as earned.
    3. Scroll to "Loans" to accept or decline your federal loan(s). This may be in full or a partial amount. If you make an error, please contact the financial aid office.  First-time loan borrowers - see Direct Loan Instructions.  
    4. Select "Submit" to save changes to work and/or loan(s).
    5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. If you have any outside scholarships, these should be entered under "Other Resources" by selecting the "add/view resource" button. You MUST select a semester in order to submit your scholarship.
    6. The "Additional Loan Options" section is used for private student loans.  
  6. Click the "Home" tab at the top of the page to review any outsanding requirements that must be completed. The NOH form is only used once you have received a job offer and need to notify student employment of being hired.
  7. Review messages under the "Resources" tab for any messages specific to your financial aid.
  8. Review the "Notifications" tab for any messages from the financial aid office.

Direct Loan Instructions

  1. Accept loan on Banner Web Self Service (see above instructions).
  2. New borrowers must complete Entrance Counseling and Loan Agreement (MPN) (you may also access this website by clicking on the unsatisfied requirement under the "Home" tab in Banner Web Self Service).
    • This is an online process that will take about 30 minutes to complete. A Student (not parent) FSA ID is required to sign in. 
    • These documents must be completed by the student, as they are the borrower of the loan(s). Any loan documents signed by a person(s) other than the listed borrower are considered fraudulent.

PLUS Loan Instructions

  1. Student may review the "Additional Loan Options" section under the Award Offer tab in Banner Web Self Service (this is the maximum amount you could take out, not necessarily the amount you should take out). Contact the financial aid office if additional loan funds are needed beyond this amount, as a student may have additional eligibility depending on their cost of attendance. 
  2. Parent must complete the application process.
    • Loan Agreement (MPN) (Parents who have previously borrowed for the same student do not need to complete this step again.) As of May 11, 2015 a Parent FSA ID is required to sign in. If you don't have one you can create one during the process or go to studentaid.gov
    • These documents must be completed by the parent, as they are the borrower of the loan(s). Any loan documents signed by a person(s) other than the listed borrower are considered fraudulent.

Private Loan (Citizens Bank, College Ave, Sallie Mae, SELF, SoFi) Instructions

  1. Review the "Additional Loan Options" section of the Award Offer tab in Banner Web Self Service (this is the maximum amount you could take out, not necessarily the amount you should take out). Contact the financial aid office if additional loan funds are needed beyond this amount, as a student may have additional eligibility depending on their cost of attendance. 
  2. Click on the appropriate link below to view private loan options and to complete the application process. 
    • Returning students are encouraged to stay with the same lender/loan program to help ease repayment.  Click on "Financial Aid History" in Banner Web Self Service to see previous loans taken out.
    • Some lenders require the following information:
      • COST OF ATTENDANCE: Found on Banner Self-Service under Financial Aid and the Award Offer tab (this is your billable and non-billable costs combined).
      • ESTIMATED FINANCIAL AID:  Can be calculated by adding up your grants and scholarships, loans, work, and outside scholarships together (found under the Award Offer tab).
