Michael Rosenbaum

Biography

Born in St. Peter, MN, he grew up mostly in central Texas before moving to New Orleans, where he earned his BA in Sociology from Tulane University. After completing his MA and PhD at Indiana, he taught for several years at the University of Denver before joining the faculty at CSB/SJU.

Teaching and Research Areas of Interest

Dr. Rosenbaum is a sociologist with a wide range of research and teaching interests, but the common, underlying thread that ties them all together is his interest in the social construction of identity and community. His research has covered a wide range of empirical phenomena, from racial stereotypes, to educational policy, to Jeep people, to baseball fans and urban identities. Michael teaches courses in sociological theory, urban sociology, self and society, and qualitative research methods, as well as the introductory course in sociology and a first-year seminar. Professor Rosenbaum is the faculty coordinator for the Sociology-Anthropology Club and the Criminology Club, and he also serves as CSB/SJU’s chapter representative for Alpha Kappa Delta, Sociology’s international honor society.
