Stay Alert and Always Yield for Pedestrians – Both on and Around Campus

Pedestrians have the right-of-way, so always yield and make sure they’re completely out of the crossing zone before you continue. Watch for pedestrians crossing outside of designated crossing zones, particularly around bus stops.

With warmer weather, there is also an increase in pedestrians along county roads. Be on the lookout for runners, bikers, and walkers and use extra care when approaching or passing pedestrians on roadways, especially at dusk.

Golf Cart Safety

Please remember that everyone operating a golf cart on campus is required to complete a Golf Cart Safety course prior to operation. If you, your staff or your affiliates require training, please contact SJU Life Safety ([email protected]) or CSB Security ([email protected]) for additional instructions.

Obey Posted Speed Limits and Signs

Watch your speed and pay attention to stop signs, yield signs, and crossing lights on and around campus.

Avoid Distractions

There are a multitude of things that can distract you while driving, but your phone is likely the biggest culprit. Avoid texting or talking on the phone while driving.

Don’t Wear Headphones While Driving

Whether they be earbuds or over-the-head headphones, do not wear anything that may decrease your driving awareness while on the road.

Only Drop Off Where You Should

When picking up or dropping off passengers around campus, use only designated loading zones or parking lots.

Defensive Driving Requirements

Please remember that if you or your student workers/staff will be operating a campus owned vehicle, Defensive Driver certification is required prior to operation. Please contact Andrew Smith ([email protected]) at Saint John’s or Darren Swanson ([email protected]) at Saint Ben’s for questions or instructions.
