Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I was motivated to study abroad because it offered the ideal opportunity to explore the world, advance my academic goals, and immerse myself in a new culture. I chose Sevilla, Spain as my semester program because the location combines unique history with vibrant tradition, while also offering a diverse range of courses that supported my Hispanic Studies minor. This balance of academic growth and cultural immersion is what ultimately made Sevilla the perfect choice for me.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.
One cultural experience that left a lasting impression on me was attending La Feria de Abril in Sevilla. The fairgrounds were lined with hundreds of colorful casetas and filled with music, dancing, and traditional dress, creating an atmosphere unlike anything I had ever experienced. One of my favorite memories was learning Sevillanas, the traditional dance of Feria, from locals! Taking part in this celebration gave me a much deeper appreciation for the culture and traditions of Sevilla, and I am so grateful to have experienced it firsthand.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
Spending a semester abroad pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me to be more independent and adaptable. I improved my Spanish through daily immersion, communicating with my host mom, professors, and locals during my day-to-day activities. Academically, it allowed me to take intriguing courses that helped me complete my Hispanic Studies minor.
