Biography

Dr. Israelson taught elementary school in Minneapolis for several years, which sparked her interest in evidence-based reading instruction. Her research examines inclusive pedagogy, teacher education, literacy instruction, and diversity in children’s literature. She is a regular contributor to the annual Annotated Bibliography in the area of reading research in the journal, Research in the Teaching of English. 

Dr. Israelson has taught literacy methods and children’s literature at CSB/SJU since 2015. She co-led the Open Windows Literature (OWL) program, providing multicultural literature and professional learning to central MN educators. She serves as the faculty director for the Children’s Literature in the UK embedded study abroad program. Dr. Israelson is a certified cohort leader in the Science of Reading Online Language & Literacy Academy (OLLA) program for CSB/SJU.
