Balance . . .

exists in the world around us AND inside us. Both environments are central to the study of biology: the interactions at the cellular level between DNA and other molecules and the interplay of plants, animals and humans in the world around us. We will help you discover both worlds ranging from viruses commandeering host cells to the dynamics of predator-prey populations.

Department Highlights

  • The two colleges have 3,200 acres of natural research space.
  • Small classes and labs give you plenty of faculty interaction throughout your degree program.
  • You will have opportunities for independent research during both the summer and the academic year.
  • You will have access to 11 new or recently remodeled lab spaces.
  • Summer research programs for undergraduates are available to CSB/SJU students.

Overview of Program

  • Biology 121, 221, 222; a set of courses to build fundamental understanding of all areas of biology from cellular/molecular to organismal to ecological.
  • You will then take five additional courses in any of the four fundamental areas of biology: organismal diversity, ecology/evolution, structural/functional biology, and cell/molecular biology.
  • You will also take supporting courses in chemistry and mathematics.
