Student Research

Students at Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary are given many opportunities to pursue their research interests. Saint John’s is home to one of the largest theological libraries in North America, Alcuin Library. Scholars from around the world travel to Collegeville to access these one-of-a-kind resources.
OBSCVLTA Student Journal
Obsculta means “listen,” the first word of the Rule of Saint Benedict. Obsculta is an opportunity for students to publish and share their projects and papers, making available the theology that they are studying, embracing, creating, and living. Students serve as editors of the journal, and the online articles located on Digital Commons can see as many downloads as 20,000 a year from viewers all across the world.
Graduate Papers
DigitalCommons@CSB/SJU highlights exceptional student achievement, including theses, academic papers, conference presentations, artwork, performances, and other scholarly and creative work. Student and Faculty work is permanently archived in DigitalCommons@CSB/SJU and will be easy to find through search engines. This makes student research more visible and more likely that one’s work can add to the scholarly conversation in the theological discipline. It also offers an easy way for students to direct future employers, graduate programs, and colleagues to the work they’ve created.
Student Funding Opportunities
Financial assistance may be made available to students who attend professional and academic conferences. These conferences act as a way to expand one’s professional research initiatives as well as amplifies the diverse experiences and research interests that our Saint John’s students bring to the Theological discipline.
Research Assistantships
In-person Master of Theology (ThM) students have the opportunity to work with faculty as a research assistant.
