What master’s program is right for me?
At Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary, we believe every calling is unique. That’s why we offer six flexible master’s degrees designed to prepare you for a wide range of vocations—whether in parish ministry, teaching, pastoral leadership, or academic research.
Our programs are available in-person, online, or through a hybrid format, so you can study in the way that works best for you.
Each program combines rigorous theological study, dynamic classroom engagement, and hands-on pastoral experience. You’ll join a diverse community of full-time and part-time students who bring a wide range of perspectives and life experiences—enriching your learning and formation.

The Master of Theological Studies
The Master of Theological Studies (MTS) immerses students in the wisdom of the theological tradition. Students gain a solid theological foundation that prepares them for advanced theological study and for teaching and leadership roles in Christian communities.

Master of Divinity – Lay Ministry
The three year Master of Divinity (MDiv) program for lay ministry candidates readies students for church leadership as lay ecclesial ministers. The program guides students through discernment of their call to ministry, their gifts, limitations, and pathway to ministry.

Master of Divinity – Priesthood Studies
The education and formation of priesthood candidates assist them to discern their gifts and to prepare for a ministry of service to their communities and to the people of God as ordained monks.

Master of Arts in Ministry
The Master of Arts in Ministry (MAM) grounds students in the Catholic theological tradition with an emphasis in: scripture, monastic spirituality, and liturgy. Students study systematic, historical, moral, and practical theology in order to learn competent ministry practice.
This degree can be earned fully online.

Master of Arts in Liturgical Music
The Master of Arts in Liturgical Music (LMUS) prepares students to serve the church as pastoral leaders in the musical dimensions of worship. The program integrates musical training with academic study of the liturgy and formation in practical aspects of parish musical leadership.

Master of Arts in Theology
The Master of Arts in Theology (MAT) provides students with a solid theological foundation in Scripture, doctrine, liturgy, and spirituality/monastic studies. Students will develop their understanding of the theological tradition and their capacity for theological thinking, which will prepare students for a wide-range of leadership positions in Christian communities. This degree can be earned fully online.

Master of Theology
The Master of Theology (ThM) program is a postgraduate, pre-doctoral program which prepares students for further studies. For students who already have a master level degree in theology (MA, MTS, M.Div), this advanced degree allows those to continue their theological education in a more specific manner, making it a highly flexible and tailored degree program.
