Jesse Albrecht: After Action Review

Monday, June 19, 2017 - September 15, 2017
Alice R. Rogers Gallery & Target Gallery, SJU

Jesse Albrecht is a ceramic and mixed media artist whose work for this exhibit is informed by his experiences as a combat veteran. His art has allowed him to capture the overwhelming cultural, mental, and physical experience of both serving in Iraq and transitioning home.

This exhibit will feature his original ceramic crocks and pulp prints on handmade paper, made from combat uniforms, as well as selections from the print portfolio Celebrate People’s History/Iraq Veterans Against the War: Ten Years of Fighting for Peace and Justice. It will also include two hand made books that Albrecht made in collaboration with The Veteran Book Project and Monica Haller, a CSB graduate.

Statement from the Artist:
The content and theme of the show attempts to communicate the enigmatic experience of war and the reality of reconciling the before and the after, for they are different lifetimes. The dysphoric aftermath of myth (war narrative) not aligning with experience, from a personal, emotional and historical perspective are utilized. Metaphorical and explicit imagery are used to illustrate the most beautiful and most horrible existing in the same physical, emotional and metal space.

We respect creating space for a variety of artistic voices. The present exhibition, After Action Review, contains content by artist Jesse Albrecht based upon his personal experience and is not a representation of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.

The exhibition contains profanity and adult content.
