This year, CSB Residential Life will be piloting three new Living Learning Communities, as well as offering our popular Health & Wellness themed housing.

In a living learning community (LLC), you get to explore an area of interest alongside your residence hall friends and neighbors! LLCs are a great way to get to know other students, faculty members, staff, and campus resources and opportunities during your first year at CSB!

Read on to learn more about these communities!

Leadership LLC

Who’s it for? Incoming first-year CSB students who have leadership experience, and/or want to become a leader! All majors and academic interests are welcome to join.

What will we do? Students in this LLC will live together on a shared floor, participate in faculty- and staff-sponsored events specifically for the community, including social activities, and educational opportunities like service projects, speakers, and more. Some of these events may include:

  • Community meals;
  • Leadership workshops;
  • Ropes course facilitation;
  • Group service projects on campus and in St. Joseph/St. Cloud;
  • Speakers and discussion groups.

Community members will work with a professor and Residential Life staff to learn about leadership styles, identify opportunities for leadership on campus, and use their leadership skills to develop a comprehensive plan for making major, career, and involvement choices.

Sustainability LLC

Who’s it for? Incoming first-year CSB students who are interested in learning how to live in an ecologically sound, socially just, and economically viable community now and in the future! All majors and academic interests are welcome to join this floor.

What will we do? Students in this LLC will live together on a shared floor, participate in faculty- and staff-sponsored events specifically for the community, including social activities, workshops, service opportunities, speakers, and more. Some of these activities may include:

  • Group service projects on campus and in St. Joseph/St. Cloud;
  • Participation in Week of Sustainability events;
  • Education and outreach about sustainability to the larger campus community.

Community members will integrate sustainable practices into their daily lives through participation in the BENNIEficial room program, learn about sustainability at CSB|SJU and in the community, and develop a community-focused, personal definition of sustainability.

Women In Science LLC

Who’s it for? Incoming first-year CSB students with a strong interest in science, technology, engineering, math, or health professions! Students in this community should plan to take science and/or math courses during their first year at CSB.

What will we do? Students in this LLC will live together on a shared floor, participate in faculty- and staff-sponsored events specifically for the community, including social activities, academic prep work, workshops, speakers, and more. Some of these activities may include:

  • Community meals;
  • Science-related service projects;
  • Group study and tutoring sessions;
  • Lectures and discussions;
  • Maker Space events

Community members will work with a professor and Residential Life staff to explore opportunities in science for women, connect with cocurricular science-related activities, including campus organizations and research opportunities, and network with faculty, advisors and upper-division students to learn more about science at CSB.

Health & Wellness Themed Community

Who’s it for? CSB students who are interested in living a substance-free, healthy lifestyle with like-minded students! All majors and academic interests are welcome to join. Communities exist in first-year residence halls, upper-class residence halls, and campus apartments.

What will we do? Students in the first-year Health & Wellness community will live together on a shared floor, and have the opportunity to participate in events focused on six dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, and intellectual.

Residential Life staff plan frequent events related to these dimensions of wellness, and look for input and participation from community members as they host programs, service opportunities, mixers with upper-class Health & Wellness residents, and an annual retreat. Some popular events in the past have included ice skating, group exercise classes, a personality assessment workshop, serving at the St. Scholastica Convent in St. Cloud, playing the New Roommate Game, guided meditation sessions, and more!
