Theologies of Disability and Aging: Becoming a Vulnerable Communion

People with disabilities are the world’s largest minority, yet they are consistently overlooked and excluded by church and society. This lecture provides an introduction to the growing field of disability theology which aims to right this wrong. Join us to see how God, church, and society can be reimagined when the experiences of people with disabilities become a locus for theological development. We will look especially at disabilities that often arise as one ages: changes in hearing abilities, cognative abilities, and mobility.
Audrey Seah graduated in 2021 with a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame and is an alumna of Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary. Her research centers around the intersections of liturgy, culture, and politics. Her dissertation examined how liturgical inculturation in Deaf Catholic communities expresses and forms narratives around deafness and the socio-political consequences of these practices. Audrey is currently completing a two-year teaching postdoc at Loyola University Maryland.

Theology Day is a chance for people in our communities who are seeking a deeper understanding of their faith and its place in their everyday lives to learn from and interact with the theologians of Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary. It offers a chance for these scholars to gain insights and grow in their faith, as well.
There is no fee for Theology Day, but registration is required. Free-will offerings and gifts to support the mission of the School of Theology and Seminary are gratefully accepted.
