The Book of Revelation: Fact or Fiction?

Bloodthirsty monsters, cosmic battles, and a smattering of fire and brimstone. Welcome to the world of Revelation. Many Christians base their lives on it; most ignore it. How seriously should we take this work, and what are the consequences if we do not? As off-putting as many find the Book of Revelation, it is still a part of the Christian biblical canon. Is there a correct way to read the strange story, and is there a means to understand its bizarre language? We will address these questions and the Book of Revelation in general.

Fr. Michael Patella


 Fr. Michael Patella, OSB is the chair of The Saint John's Bible Committee on Illumination
and Text. A Benedictine monk of Saint John's Abbey in Collegeville, Minnesota, he is a
professor of the New Testament and teaches in both the undergraduate theology department
and the graduate School of Theology·Seminary at Saint John's University. He has published
in the area of Luke, Mark, Paul, angels and demons. He earned a License in Sacred Scriptures
from Rome's Pontifical Biblical Institute and a Doctorate in Sacred Scripture from the École
biblique et archéologique française in Jerusalem. Fr. Michael is a member of the Catholic
Biblical Association.

  

Theology Day is a chance for people in our communities who are seeking a deeper understanding of their faith and its place in their everyday lives to learn from and interact with the theologians of Saint John's School of Theology·Seminary. It offers a chance for these scholars to gain insights and grow in their faith, as well.
