This summer, Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary had two students attend The Bread for the World 2026 Advocacy Summit: Planting Hope, Feeding Futures in Washington D.C.
Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger. Their mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.
Liz Hamak (‘29) and Lexi Torres (‘28), both Master of Divinity students in the Conversatio program, connected with leaders from Bread for the World, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the Catholic Climate Covenant.
Liz said, “these conversations were insightful, inspiring, and a powerful reminder of the important work being done at the intersection of faith and justice. This is the kind of work I’m deeply passionate about, and getting to witness it firsthand was something special.”
Reflecting on her experience, Lexi said, “This summit gave me a broader understanding of how to apply my faith into tangible action steps that advocate for those that are the least among us.”
We are proud to have young leaders in the Church like Lexi and Liz part of our Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary community.
