Defining the Issues

Sexual Assault
  • Sexual contact, including but not limited to penetration, without consent
  • Includes when the victim lacks capacity to consent
Sexual Harassment
  • Behavior characterized by the making of unwelcome and inappropriate sexual remarks or physical advances in a workplace or other professional or social situation
Dating Violence
  • Violent acts committed by a person who is or has been in a social relationship of a romantic or intimate nature with the victim
  • Dating violence includes, but is not limited to, sexual or physical abuse or the threat of such abuse
Domestic Violence
  • Violent acts committed by a current or former spouse or intimate partner of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabitating with or has cohabitated with the victim as a spouse or intimate partner, or by any other person against an adult or youth victim who is protected from that person’s acts under the domestic or family violence laws of the jurisdiction
Stalking
  • “To engage in conduct which the actor knows or has reason to know would cause the victim, under the circumstances, to feel frightened, threatened, oppressed, persecuted, or intimidated, and causes this reaction on the part of the victim regardless of the relationship between the actor and victim.”
Sexual Exploitation
  • Minor Commercial Sexual Exploitation occurs when someone age 24 and under engages in commercial sexual activity. A commercial sexual activity occurs when anything of value or a promise of anything of value (e.g., money, drugs, food, shelter, rent, or higher status in a gang or group) is given to a person by any means in exchange for any type of sexual activity. A third party may or may not be involved.
