The Record, the student newspaper at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University, captured three awards as part of the College Better Newspaper Contest put on by the Minnesota Newspaper Association. The awards were presented during the annual MNA convention on Thursday, Jan. 26, in Minneapolis.

The following students won individual awards for stories written during the 2021-22 academic year:

  • Will Schwinghammer placed second in the Investigative Reporting category.
  • Jacob Gathje captured second place in the Local Breaking News Coverage category.

“It was awesome to receive these awards as recognition of all the hard work we put in as a staff, and it sets us up to produce even better campus content in the future,” said Jacob Gathje, editor-in-chief of The Record during the 2022-23 academic year.
