Nicholas Bruckman to discuss documentary 'La Americana'

Film producer Nicholas Bruckman will present his documentary La Americana and host a Q-and-A session at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, in Pellegrene Auditorium, Saint John's University.

He will also lead a discussion about immigration policy and the media, as well as his experiences creating films and using them for social change, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in room 264, Quadrangle Building, SJU.

Both events, which are free and open to the public, are sponsored by the Latino and Latin American Studies program at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University.

Bruckman is a New York-based independent film producer. His feature debut La Americana won multiple awards at international film festivals, was broadcast in over 100 countries and screened widely with national policy and advocacy organizations.

Bruckman's additional production credits include the PBS documentaries Bronx Princess and The New Recruits, as well as the upcoming feature film Valley of Saints. Bruckman's work has been supported by numerous organizations including the New York State Council on the Arts, Cinereach, National Geographic and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. In 2010, he was named a Film Fellow by the New York Foundation for the Arts. In addition to independent films, Bruckman's production company, People's Television, creates commercial media projects around the world for Fortune 500 and non-profit clients. 

The mission of the Latino/Latin American Studies program at CSB and SJU is to promote greater awareness and understanding of Latino and Latin American history and culture among the CSB, SJU and local communities.
