ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The nursing department at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University is ranked the number one private college in the state for students passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and is second for all baccalaureate institutions in the state. CSB/SJU's 91 percent passing rate reflects first-time testers for calendar year 2001.

This year, 61 CSB/SJU nursing students took the exam. State law requires that students practice nursing only after passing the NCLEX, which is taken after graduation. Passing the exam permits them to practice professionally. License renewal occurs every two years, with demonstration of 24 hours of continuing education within that two-year period.

The College of Saint Benedict for women and Saint John's University for men are partners in liberal arts education, providing students the opportunity to benefit from the distinctions of not one, but two nationally recognized Catholic, Benedictine, residential undergraduate colleges. Together, the colleges challenge students to live balanced lives of learning, work, leadership and service in a coeducational environment.
