St. Joseph, Minn.- The Asian American Students Association (AASA) of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University is hosting their annual Asian New Year celebration on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 5-9 p.m. in the CSB Haehn Campus Center Clemens Field House.

The theme for 1999, the year of the rabbit, is "Prelude to the Pacific." The evening includes a variety of entertainment: traditional Chinese dancing, Japanese taiko drumming, the Chinese American Dance Theater, Filipino dancing, traditional Japanese O'Bon dancing and a fashion show sponsored by the AASA. The dinner menu features Asian cuisine.

The event celebrates multiculturalism and diversity within the Asian and Asian American traditions. The celebration of New Year's festivities, representing eight to 10 Asian countries, intends to educate and enlighten guests about Asian heritage and interests. The AASA is committed to fighting racism and prejudice by embracing the common bonds shared by all people.

Tickets, available for sale at the Haehn Campus Center at CSB or the Sexton Commons Information Desk at SJU, are $5 for CSB/SJU students and $7 for the general public.

The College of Saint Benedict for women and Saint John's University for men are partners in liberal arts education, providing students the opportunity to benefit from the distinctions of not one, but two nationally recognized Catholic, Benedictine, residential undergraduate colleges. Together the colleges challenge students to live balanced lives of learning, work, leadership and service in a coeducational environment.
