Vocal Performance Workshop
The CSB/SJU Vocal Performance Workshop provides an opportunity for students to give in-depth study, practice, and presentation of classical and contemporary works of opera and musical theater. The group regularly stages full operas as well as revues and excerpts from a variety of stage works. Participation is by audition only and requires the consent of the directors, Irina Stene and David DeBlieck. Interested students should register for MUSC 358 for 0-2 credits.

Shake off the dust and gloom from the past two years and join us for this year’s Opera Workshop production of upbeat tunes and dances from early Broadway. Selections include “It’s Delovely”, “Ain’t Misbehavin”, “I Got Rhythm” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing”. Grab your music, put on your dancing shoes and join us on the Sunny Side of the Street!
To Sign up and Prepare:
1. Sign up for a one hour time slot to audition on SignUp Genius:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4AAFAF2AA0FDCE9-fascinatin
2. Select an excerpt from a song that features your vocal skills (1-2 minutes). If you don’t have a song in mind, consider singing one of the following song excerpts from the show:
I Got Rhythm (one time through)
It’s De-Lovely (one time through)
Ain’t Misbehavin (refrain)
3. Print and complete the Audition Form and bring it with you to auditions. We will also have printed copies at auditions if you aren’t able to complete the form beforehand.
4. Show up a few minutes early for your assigned audition time. We will begin each one hour slot by having everyone learn and perform a short piece of choreography. After the dance audition, each individual will have 5 minutes to sing their song excerpt and if needed, sing some scales with the music director to determine vocal range.
