The Sister Nancy Hynes’ Institute for Women’s Leadership at the College of Saint Benedict, which is commemorating its 20th anniversary this year, will honor Women’s History Month in March with a series of engaging campus events.

At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 in Gorecki 204 at CSB, the institute will host a keynote address delivered by Blair Imani, a critically acclaimed historian, author, educator and influencer. Her scholarship spans intersectionality, gender studies, race and racism, sociology and U.S. history.

The New York Times praised Imani’s unique ability to create “progressive lessons with vibrant visuals and a perky, quirky delivery.” Her viral microlearning series “Smarter In Seconds” demonstrates her signature style of making abstract concepts more concrete in a well-researched, well-presented and concise manner.

She is the author of Read This to Get Smarter about Race, Class, Gender, Disability, and More; Making Our Way Home: The Great Migration and the Black American Dream; and Modern HERstory: Stories of Women and Nonbinary People Rewriting History. Her work centers women and girls, global Black communities and the LGBTQ community. As an educator and influencer, a semi-retired organizer and public speaker, Imani is dedicated to making the world a better place and amplifying the voices and work of those fighting the good fight.

The IWL seeks to provide a forum where Bennies can explore and articulate their aspirations in a way that promotes community transformation. The IWL is named after Sister Nancy Hynes, who was an English professor at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.
