2022-2023 IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter
If you did NOT file a 2020 federal tax return, you must provide an IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter. The letter is required of each parent listed on the FAFSA of dependent students. For independent students (as determined by the FAFSA), only the student must provide this letter.
The Verification of Non-filing Letter can only be obtained directly from the IRS.
To obtain an IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter, use one of the 2 methods described below:
Method 1: Go to the IRS website (Best option for those who have a personal credit card, car loan or mortgage and mobile phone with their name on the account)
Select 'Get Transcript ONLINE' (not available through 'Get Transcript by MAIL')
Submit the letter to the Financial Aid Office (see contact information below)
OR
Method 2: Complete Form 4506-T
IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter mailed to home address and family mails letter to CSB/SJU
Complete Lines 1-4, if applicable
Lines 6, 6a-c: leave blank
Line 8: leave blank
Sign, date and provide your phone number on the bottom of the form
Fax or mail to the appropriate location (provided on Page 2 of the 4506-T)
Once received, write the student's name and student ID (if known) on the letter and send it to the Financial Aid Office
