Graduating Student Information

As you are preparing to graduate you need to keep in mind some of the commitments that you made when you borrowed loans. Listed below is some of the information that you will need. Please contact the Financial Aid office if you have any questions.

COVID-19 Forbearance Information - currently extended through 1/31/22

  • Temporary 0% interest rate and suspension of payments
  • Applies only to federally-held loans (exclusion examples include: Perkins Loans held by the institution or commercially, private loans, commerically-held FFEL or HEAL program loans)
  • Borrowers can still choose to make payments

Loan History

Its important to know which loans you have taken before you begin repayment. In Banner Self-Service you can look at your financial aid information and the loans that you have borrowed while at CSB/SJU. To review current federal loan balances and interest that has accrued, please review your loans on studentaid.gov. You may also see who is the current servicer of your federal loans by logging on with your FSA ID (what you used to complete the FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/.

For private loan interest and servicer information, please contact your lender directly.

Exit Counseling

Exit counseling is a federal requirement for Direct Loan borrowers (if you had a Perkins Loan you will received separate information to complete that requirement). This requirement is completed at studentaid.gov under "Manage Loans". It will give you information about your loan conditions and repayment terms. Exit counseling should be completed before graduation or anytime you cease being enrolled at least half time.  If after completing the exit counseling and you have further questions feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office.

Repayment

Now that you have the information about the loans you have taken, the next step is repayment. Review our Federal Loan Repayment Checklist for steps you can take now and after graduation to be prepared to make your first student loan payment.  While the checklist is geared towards federal loans, many concepts (such as creating a budget, avoiding scams) can apply to private loans as well.

Loan Consolidation

Information and links for loan consolidation for federal student loans. Many private student loan lenders offer consolidation/refinancing as well. You cannot consolidate federal and private loan debt with a Federal Direct Consolidation Loan.
