Strategic Communication Studies

What extra-curricular activities are you involved in on campus? How has that involvement helped you succeed?
  • CSB Soccer
  • CSB Athletic Media
  • Criminology Club, Media Officer
  • Sportswriter, The Record

Being involved teaches time management, which is vital to the success of a balanced life. As a student-athlete, I learned to appreciate the little available free time and to strive for the best in mind and body. Joining Criminology Club was a side-interest, but it helped me decide my career path and facilitated connections and opportunities to explore my future. Take part in random clubs that have no connection to your major—you never know where you might end up!

What advice would you give to students thinking of majoring/minoring in communication?

Studying communication is valuable no matter what field you want to go into. Communication skills are marketable and vital to professional success. I find everyday applications for the information I studied in every communication class. The department is amazing, and every professor has a unique perspective that makes getting to know them worthwhile.

What value do you see in being a communication major at CSB/SJU?

If you are considering studying communication, don’t be afraid to take a class in the department! Even if you don’t choose it as a path, that class will be valuable in every other field too.
