Job Description:Purpose of Position:
To oversee all aspects of pastoral care ministry, with an emphasis on BeFrienders, funerals, and grief and caregiver support ministries. Provide leadership and faith/spiritual formation for volunteer ministry teams. Envision and enact ways to adapt pastoral ministry goals to changing needs in the community. Contribute to the overall mission of the Church of St. Timothy by doing ministry in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with staff and parishioners.

General Responsibilities:
Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment.

supportive of the mission and purpose of the Catholic Church. Their public behavior
must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Manage funeral ministries:
• Respond to the initial intake call from the family or funeral home.
• Develop and sustain positive working relationships with local funeral
homes and directors.
• Conduct the planning meeting for the funeral with family.
• Be available to support funeral ministry staff on the day of the funeral.
• Lead evening vigil prayers when needed.
• Direct, recruit, and train parishioners to serve as staff funeral assistants.
• Preside at committals when needed.
2. Direct and coordinate the BeFriender Program:
• Coordinate the BeFriender volunteers:
i. Recruit, train, supervise volunteers of BeFriender Ministry.
ii. Develop Leadership Team.
iii. Provide continuing formation and spiritual development for
BeFriender volunteers.
• Coordinate the Hospital and Home Ministry
i. Assign BeFriender to hospital visit hospitals.
ii. Evaluate the intervention needs of parishioners.
iii. Connect the BeFrienders to individuals in need of home visits.
iv. Support individual BeFrienders in their ministry.
3. Provide supportive pastoral care, assessment, and referral to those in the parish
community facing personal or family crisis. This includes but is not limited to oneon-one meetings, phone calls, family and marriage crises, and illness/end-of-life
support.
4. Develop comprehensive grief support and caregiver support ministries.
5. Serve as first back-up to pastor for after-hours emergency calls, and primary oncall when pastor is on vacation.
6. Collaborate with staff in offering pastoral care formation in our faith formation and
adult education ministries
Job Qualifications: Preferred Bachelor of Arts degree in theology, religious studies, social work, or
related field.
• Experience in pastoral ministry with preference given to a parish setting.
Chaplaincy will be considered.
• Ability to manage complex pastoral care dynamics.
• Ability to accomplish ministry goals with empathy and compassion.
• Committed to team-oriented collaborative ministry.

Mental and Physical Requirements:
• Empathetic communication skills including writing and speaking.
• Pastoral minister is encouraged to seek out regular spiritual direction or
supportive counseling.
• Ability to solve problems quickly and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with others.
• Commitment to shared and collaborative ministry with staff and volunteers
• Willingness to continue self-formation in areas of pastoral theology and practice.
• Occasional need to lift or move heavier desks, chairs, up to 25 lbs.
• Able to sit for long periods of time at work desk.
