Money Magazine's Top 50 Colleges

Money Magazine ranks the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University among the Best 50 Colleges in the nation. Together, CSB/SJU are the top-ranked schools in Minnesota. Schools were evaluated on educational quality, affordability, and career success. 

Rachel Mullin

Rhodes Scholar

Rachel Mullin '14 was one of 32 Americans who received a 2016 Rhodes Scholarship. Mullin was the only recipient from a Minnesota college or university. The Rhodes Scholarship is widely considered to be the world's most prestigious academic award. Scholars receive full financial support to pursue a degree at the University of Oxford. Rachel credits much of her success to the mentorship she received from CSB/SJU professors.

Most Entrepreneurial Colleges

Saint John's University is ranked as one of America's Most Entrepreneurial Colleges for 2015 by Forbes Magazine. SJU was ranked No. 21 in the poll. It is the only school from Minnesota rated on the list of the top 50 colleges. Both the College of Saint Benedict and SJU are also listed on Forbes Best Value Colleges list.

Fiske Guide Best Buy

Fiske Guide to Colleges named CSB/SJU to their 2015 Best Buys list. The list includes 44 institutions – 22 private and 22 public – as Best Buys this year. There are no other Minnesota colleges or universities on the 2015 list. "The schools' small sizes and strong sense of tradition give rise to the tight-knit community," Fiske Guide said in its review of CSB/SJU. "Together, the colleges have invested millions in facilities in recent years."

Princeton Review Colleges That Pay You Back

According to The Princeton Review, CSB/SJU are two of the nation's best colleges for students seeking great academics, outstanding career preparation, and generous financial aid. CSB/SJU are included in The Princeton Review's new book, Colleges That Pay You Back – The 200 Best Value Colleges and What It Takes to Get In – 2015 Edition. The book includes schools they consider to be "the nation's best for academics, affordability and career prospects."

Two Truman Scholars in Two Years

CSB/SJU produced two Truman Scholars in back-to-back years (2013 and 2014), the most of any institution in Minnesota. Truman Scholars are selected on the basis of their academic success, leadership accomplishments, and their likelihood of becoming public service leaders.

Notre Dame, Georgetown, CSB/SJU

Each was named one of the top 15 best Catholic colleges and universities in the country by College Factual, a site that uses outcome-based data to guide students through the college selection process. CSB was ranked No. 8 and SJU No. 14. According to the story that ran in USA Today, CSB “has a solid reputation for developing students intellectually, spiritually and ethically."

Top Fulbright Producer

With 20 students receiving Fulbright Scholarships in the last three years, CSB/SJU were ranked among the elite company of some of the best liberal arts colleges in the country. CSB/SJU faculty work diligently to mentor students for these opportunities.

Track and Field

All-American Scholar Athletics

At CSB/SJU, our athletes excel on the field and in the classroom including recent team academic honors in: men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's track and field, men's golf and women's volleyball.

Newman Civic Fellows Committed to Service

CSB/SJU students, Meg Schrafft and James Pathoulas, were named 2015 Newman Civic Fellows. The fellowship honors students who are committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of higher education to improve community life and to educate students for civic and social responsibility.

National Outdoor Champion

Competing against many much larger colleges and universities, CSB/SJU placed first in the 2014 and second in the 2015 Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge. Sponsored by The North Face, colleges accumulate points through outdoor activities of community members.

Young Hispanic Leader Standout

SJU student Edwin Torres, was honored with the Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders from the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute. Torres was one of only 20 individuals in the country to receive the award.

SJU Return on Investment

SJU's Return on Investment Ranked Nationally

A story in the Wall Street Journal newspaper and accompanying poll ranked SJU No. 13 for best returns on investment (ROI) for liberal arts majors. The story, headlined “Are Prestigious Private Colleges Worth the Cost?” showed SJU tied with Yale University and Colgate University with an annual ROI of 6.5 percent.

CSB Operating Efficiency

CSB's Operating Efficiency Ranked Nationally

An analysis published by U.S. News that compared spending to educational quality rated CSB second among national liberal arts colleges. The article states, "Schools that are featured on these lists are doing a good job in managing their financial resources relative to other schools that may have far greater financial resources because of more state funding, higher tuition or larger endowments."

President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

CSB/SJU were named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The honor roll highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community challenges.

Senator Paul Simon Award

CSB/SJU received the Senator Paul Simon Award for comprehensive internationalization – one of only a few liberal arts schools to claim this distinction. The award recognizes schools who demonstrate excellence in integrating an international and global perspective into all aspects of college life.

Top Three for Semester-long Study Abroad

According to Open Doors 2015, the annual report on international education published by the Institute of International Education (IIE), CSB/SJU are ranked third among undergraduate schools for participation in semester-long study abroad programs. CSB/SJU have been ranked among the top six schools nationally in this category for more than 10 years.

Peace Corps' Top 25

CSB earned a spot on both the 2014 and 2015 Peace Corps' annual list of the top 25 volunteer-producing small colleges and universities across the country.

United Nations Observer Status

CSB/SJU have been granted non-governmental observer status to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. CSB/SJU are among a select few liberal arts schools to receive observer status.

Minnesota's Only School with a White House Intern

Bridget Cummings, a political science major from CSB/SJU, was one of about 140 college students selected from across the country to participate in the 2014 Summer White House Internship Program. She was the only intern from a Minnesota college.

Stennis Interns

Three CSB/SJU Students Nominated for Stennis Interns

Thirty students across the nation were chosen as Stennis Congressional Interns - three of them were CSB/SJU students. The Stennis Congressional Intern Program is a bipartisan, bicameral leadership development program for summer interns of the U.S. Congress. The program promotes congressional public service and seeks to enhance the experience of summer interns on Capitol Hill through networking with other interns and interactions with senior congressional staff.

Top 100 U.S. News and World Report

CSB/SJU were once again both rated among the top 100 in national rankings of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

Deloitte Audit Case Competition Champion

CSB/SJU accounting students placed first at the 2015 Minneapolis Deloitte Audit Case Competition, beating University of St. Thomas, University of Minnesota, University of Northern Iowa, and University of North Dakota. CSB/SJU advanced to the regionals and again emerged victorious – beating University of Iowa, University of Wisconsin, University of Nebraska, University of Illinois, Marquette University, and DePaul University.

Management Case Research Competition Champion

CSB/SJU placed first at the 2016 Society for the Advancement of Management (SAM) Case Research Competition in Las Vegas. CSB/SJU teams have won the competition four of the last five years.
