Peggy Ladner has worked for The Nature Conservancy since 1997, retiring in 2020 as the assistant state director for development and operations and the state director of Minnesota and the Dakotas, a position she held since July 2006. She has an undergraduate degree in political science and environmental studies from St. Louis University, and a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Ladner has trained and supervised environmental staff, run issue and electoral campaigns to advance environmental and conservation agendas and worked with a range of organizations, including Clean Water Action, Clean Water Fund, National League of Conservation Voters, Minnesota Environmental Fund and Minnesota Progressive Voters Alliance. She helped found a number of organizations, including the Minnesota League of Conservation Voters in 1984. She is the daughter of 1948 SJU graduate Frank Ladner.
