November 30: Presidents' Message to Employees

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your ongoing and committed work to provide a strong academic and social experience for our students this semester. We are deeply grateful for the dedication to our students you have shown during challenging times.

We can be proud of what we are accomplishing together. Your work has been nothing short of heroic, and we see your long hours, hard work and determined effort. We are eager to reward your efforts in an extra special way this year.

Additional Days Off

As the Christmas holiday approaches, this is an opportunity to reflect on what a remarkable and dedicated community we have. We value your work and want you to be able to spend more time with family and loved ones. To that end, we will offer additional time off around Christmas. CSB and SJU will align their closing periods, for the benefit of all CSB/SJU employees.

This year, both the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University campuses will be closed from Tuesday, December 22, 2020, through Sunday, January 3, 2021. December 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30 will be paid days off for CSB and SJU employees. Please note that this change is for 2020. We will review the holiday schedule again next year.

Administrative offices will re-open on Monday, January 4, 2021. We encourage all employees who can work remotely to do so from January 4 through Friday, January 22.

We acknowledge that not all staff can be away when the campus is closed. Some essential staff must be present, and we are especially grateful for your work.

Insurance Premium Holiday

In addition, we are pleased to announce a health insurance premium holiday in December for CSB/SJU/OSB staff and faculty enrolled in the health insurance plan. Health insurance premiums will not be deducted on the December 15, 2020 pay date.

COVID-19 has posed financial challenges for CSB, SJU, and all institutions of higher education. However, the claims experience of our self-insured health plan over the past months resulted in a favorable insurance reserve fund balance. Thus, we believe we can prudently offer this one-time opportunity.

We are delighted that this will provide something extra for our employees enrolled in the health insurance plan, at the end of a busy year.

Thank you for delivering our mission every day, especially in the middle of a global pandemic. We are grateful to – and for – each member of our community.

Merry Christmas!
