July 24: Safety Protocols for Academic Affairs

Dear Faculty and Staff,

The Academic Affairs policies for safe behavior and expectations related to COVID-19 have been reviewed and finalized. Attached are detailed expectations for different spaces (classrooms, labs/non-traditional classrooms, and common spaces) and offices, departments and programs. A summary is highlighted below:

  • In alignment with the decision made by the state of Minnesota, the entire community is expected to wear masks on campus. This includes in the classroom, common spaces, and while moving in and out of academic buildings, offices, and other spaces. If an individual cannot wear a mask, a face shield can act as a substitute. Two masks will be provided to the entire community.
  • Please use hand sanitizer as you enter and leave common areas. There will be hand sanitizer in designated areas of academic buildings but be prepared to bring your own hand sanitizer as you move across campus.
  • Classrooms will be disinfected by custodial staff. If you use a common space, you will be expected to sanitize that space as you enter and leave that space. Materials will be provided to do so.
  • Individual and group meetings or events outside of the class period will be virtual. This includes meetings with offices like the Writing Center or Experience and Professional Development (XPD), as well as individual meetings (e.g. getting help from a faculty member or tutor), and group meetings (e.g. department meetings or help sessions).
  • Faculty and staff with individual offices are expected to disinfect their own offices. As a result, we are recommending virtual meetings (as mentioned above) and no in-person meetings in offices.

These expectations (and these documents) will be posted on the COVID-19 CSB/SJU webpage and a similar summary will be sent to students.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to academic affairs.

Community Always,
