January 31: COVID-19 Update

Thank you all for your partnership over the past few weeks to help keep our COVID-19 positive case count to a manageable level. We said we would start the school year “slow,” and we believe that approach assisted in keeping our classes in person when other schools were forced to move online because of high positive case rates. With 9 current student positive cases today, we are hopeful that we are beginning to see lower numbers that will enable us to slowly increase our on-campus activities and reduce mitigations.

For events, gatherings and meetings, we have set forth a few guidelines to help protect our community as we resume more of our in-person activities:

  • Events, gatherings and meetings allowed up to 50% capacity of a room to encourage social distancing. (Please note that this does not apply to classes. Classes will continue to meet as normal.)
  • No food currently allowed at on-campus gatherings.
  • Our current temporary masking guidelines will be followed.
  • Athletics will continue to follow guidelines set forth by the MIAC and NCAA.

As a reminder, masks are required indoors and on transportation. Exceptions to the masking requirement include:

  • When seated and actively eating or drinking
  • Residence hall private rooms
  • Private offices
  • Outdoors

Thank you,
