Flexible volunteer and internship opportunities.  Camphill's mission is to "create and sustain a community where people with and without disabilities live, work and care for each other to foster social, spiritual, cultural and agricultural renewal." Camphill Village Minnesota is a life-sharing community with adults with developmental disabilities located on a 500-acre farm in rural central Minnesota. Coworkers live and work at Camphill in house communities and do not receive a salary, but do receive room, board, and a stipend, and stay for longer periods of time.
Catholic Charities

Students in education majors who desire to use their educational degrees in a non-school setting, have several opportunities with Catholic Charities. (1) Case Managers/Counselors for Homeless or Transitioning Youth: work with youth and use the skills & knowledge from their curriculum to help youth learn about the resources and community. (2) Skills Trainers & Direct Care associates: allow students to explore the field as it relates to special education . Work with clients diagnosed with Traumatic brain injuries, developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, psychiatric diagnoses, etc. Several part-time student opportunities. (3) Youth Mentors: part-time work for students learning to identify the issues that youth face (family dynamics, learning disabilities, socio-economic status, substance abuse). Many other opportunities available for non-Education majors.

Laketrails Base Camp Summer camp counselors who we call "Guides."  Guides are responsible for planning wilderness canoe trips with teens and leading Base Camp activities.  They teach small groups a variety of camping skills and paddling techniques. Applicants must have a desire to work with teenagers and middle school youth.  Certifications in First Aid and CPR are required; life guarding certification is preferable.  Some prior camping experience is also required.
