Sade Lockhart-Bain

Intern Name: Sade Lockhart-Bain

Major: Nutrition

Title/Place of Internship: College of Saint Benedict Health Center

How did you find out about your internship/fellowship/etc.?

I met with Laura in XPD with hopes of finding an internship that works well for me, my major, my class schedule and within distance that did not require transportation. I ended up creating an internship that fit everything I would like to do, and was offered it at two locations. I accepted the internship here on campus at the Health Center with Lori Klapperich in Health Promotion.

What were your responsibilities at your internship/fellowship/etc.?

With this internship, Lori gave me guidance for research and I executed programs with my faculty advisor Jayne Byrne. The internship was more independent work than team work. I was responsible for collaborating with food services and student development, creating and executing nutrition programming on campus, arranging meetings pre and post event to discuss logistics and outcomes, and analyzing data from the programs.

What was the most beneficial aspect of your experience?

I would say the most beneficial aspect of my experience was executing the programs and seeing the results, analyzing the data and researching the effects of nutrition programming.

What was the most surprising thing you experienced at your internship?

The most surprising thing I've experienced or learned in this internship was the success of the programmings.

How can you apply what you experienced at your internship/fellowship/etc. in the future?

I can apply my analytical and research skills, communication skills such as writing, speaking and giving presentations to my professional development.

What advice would you offer to future students interested in this experience?

Be proactive.
