Intern Name: Alexandra Rothstein ‘15
Intern Title/Name of Organization: Marketing Intern, Legacy Building Solutions
How did you find out about the internship and what was the application process?
I found this internship through the Marketing Club. My boss/site supervisor asked a member of the Marketing Club if someone in the club was interested in an internship. I took her up on the offer. We met a few times at the Local Blend and talked through what I know, my skills and knowledge and what I am looking for in an internship.
What were some of the highlights?
Some of the highlights of being the Marketing Intern at Legacy Building Solutions are the people I work with and the experience I have had. The two women in charge of the Marketing Team at this company are very intelligent, hardworking and fun women to work with on projects. Another highlight would be gaining professional experience in an area of my interest. I was able to use my skills but also learn a lot of hands-on work within the area of marketing.
What was a "typical day" like? What were some of your major responsibilities?
Some of my major responsibilities were to find the target contacts our company would like to get in touch with, which included over 1,000 contacts. I also extracted the website content in order for it to be translated into Spanish for the Chilean website of Legacy. Finally, I worked for the creative side of the team and wrote a blog article for the website's blog on Commodity Storage and Fabric Buildings.”
What were some of the challenges of your internship?
Some of the challenges I had at my internship were to grow my self-confidence and be able to be in charge of their Pinterest page, pinning our buildings and writing the descriptions then posting them to Pinterest. Also, another challenge was coming into a marketing internship with slight to no knowledge of fabric buildings (which is what Legacy Building Solutions does) and writing a blog for the website. However, this was a very important and fun task in which I learned a lot about the company and myself.
What did you learn?
I learned about the marketing profession, Legacy Building Solutions and myself. I learned about the analytical and creative side of marketing. I gained a lot of self-confidence by posting my own writing on the website and other social media sites. Finally, I learned about a successful company which I loved having the chance to work for last semester.
What advice would you give other students interested in internships?
I would say absolutely get an internship before you graduate. Internships give you a great chance to have hands-on experience outside of campus clubs and courses. Having an internship allows you to experience a profession in the real world. This is also a great talking point in interviews when you are looking for a job or another internship.
