Please give a brief description of your previous & current position: About a year ago, I started my own business, Greenline Marketing. As an Inbound Marketer, I wear many different hats. I am a writer, strategizer, planner, analyzer, editor...the list goes on! I create, plan, and execute client and internal inbound marketing efforts to help increase web traffic with the purpose of converting leads into customers. I manage and create social media content, email marketing efforts, write blogs, eBooks, and Case Studies and work on other content creation and customer engagement opportunities- all on behalf of my amazing clients! I track and analyze metrics and provide recommendations and adjustments for inbound marketing methodology improvements. Our goal is to always deliver results to clients, so I work day in and day out to make sure their marketing is working for them. Every day is different, and every client is unique - which is just one of the many things I enjoy about my job!

What path did you follow to get to this point? During my junior year at CSB I was fortunate to have 2 different internships. Both were in very different worlds- different industries, different sizes, different work- and I was able to explore my interests. I have been very fortunate to work (and intern) in various aspects of marketing, social media, and communications within several different industries. I think learning about my skills, what I enjoy doing, and where my passions are have helped lead me to Leighton Interactive.

What advice/suggestions would you have for students who might be interested in your career? Work hard, be tenacious, and be bold. Hard work rarely goes unnoticed and is always worthwhile. If you're willing to go the extra step, exceed expectations, and put in the time- regardless of the time, place, or situaiton, it will pay off. Be tenacious; if there's a job or experience you really want, persistently chase it (without being pushy, rude, or annoying, of course). With tenacity comes patience and determination- keep your eye on the prize and polish your skills and yourself until you've done everything you can. Especially in the world of marketing and advertising, being bold is important. Introduce yourself to leaders, network even if you feel uncomfortable, and seize every and any opportunity that comes your way. "A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there."

What skills are important in your field? When I started working at Leighton Interactive, I wrote a blog, "5 Must-Have traits for Marketing Agency Newbies" - you can find it here. To sum it up: adaptabiltiy, energy, sense of humor, passion, and appreciation.

What is the most satisfying/rewarding part of your job? There are a lot of really rewarding things about my job. First and foremost, I get to do something I absolutely love. Being part of a fun, supportive, creative team who pushes me to be better and do better is really exciting. Another rewarding part of my job is working with clients- I help businesses and brands every day; when they're successful, I'm successful.

Most challenging? Marketing is very fast-paced, and that's putting it lightly. There are a hundred and one tasks, updates, and trends to keep up with day-in-day out. I am always learning something new and trying something different. I t can be tiring if you let it be, or it can be energizing and exciting. As a planner, I have to learn to enjoy the ride and know that not everything will go as planned.

What activities/experiences were helpful at CSB/SJU (and elsewhere) in preparation for this career? Where do I begin? There were a lot of experiences I had at CSB that helped pave my path. Working at the Career Resource Center and learning to take advantage of their services and staff put me leaps and bounds ahead. Working with the CRC helped me not only find the jobs and internships I wanted, but helped me polish my resume, interview skills, build my network. I also was part of the CSB/SJU Marketing Club.  Marketing Club gave me hands-on experience on not only in marketing, but leadership and teamwork. I was also fortunate enough to study abroad in Australia for a semester. Studying abroad allowed me to try new things, meet new people, and get outside my comfort zone.
