Richard Rohr

The Rev. Richard Rohr

The Rev. Richard Rohr will present an interactive video presentation at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Founders Room (room 170), Quadrangle Building, Saint John's University.

Rohr's presentation will focus on his book "Immortal Diamond: The Search for Our True Self," which was published in 2013.

"Immortal Diamond" (whose title is taken from a Gerard Manley Hopkins poem) explores the deepest questions of a person's identity, spirituality and meaning. According to the website Read the Spirit, "As is usually the case with (Rohr's) books, the idea can be conveyed in a single sentence: At the core of each life is true, eternal goodness - and the key to a successful life is opening up that true self so that we can compassionately connect with God's world."

He will speak on the topic for approximately 75 minutes, then answer questions from the audience. Rohr is presenting to the group via video conference call while recovering from prostate cancer surgery.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be moderated by Br. David-Paul Lange, OSB, and Dick Howard, a 1972 graduate of SJU.

Rohr, a Franciscan priest of the New Mexico Province, is the founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Besides "Immortal Diamond," he has written a number of other books including "Everything Belongs," Adam's Return," "The Naked Now," "Falling Upward" and "Eager to Love: The Alternative Way of Francis of Assisi."

The presentation is being held in conjunction with a spirituality retreat sponsored by the Saint John's Alumni Association called "Seeking Our Immortal Diamond."
