Spotlight #1: Jaime Purdie: Impact of Precooling on Aerobic Exercise in the Heat - Advisor: Dr. Mary Stenson
Sports were a major part of my life while growing up, and we often played outside in intense, summer heat. The difficulty created by this peaked my interest and I decided to research a way that athletes could fight the heat.
My experiences throughout this research project relate closely to CSB/SJU's Think Deeply learning goal. I was required to use my ability to think creatively when developing my research question, encountering obstacles during data collection, and formulating conclusions based on my results. I improved my critical thinking by analyzing past studies performed by other researchers and by identifying the strengths and limitations of my own study.
"I would want future CSB/SJU students to take risks and step outside of their comfort zones. When you are comfortable you don't learn anything, so step outside, get to know people that have different backgrounds than you, and don't be afraid to try something new."
