Undergraduate Research & COVID-19

Undergraduate Research continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation while still providing support, opportunities, and resources for student researchers and faculty mentors. The safety of our researchers, faculty mentors, and UR staff are our top priority.

Connecting with Undergraduate Research:
Students who wish to learn more about Undergraduate Research or are affiliated with any of our programs can connect with us using the Hive. A mixture of in-person and virtual appointments via Zoom will be available based on the current campus safety recommendations; appointment times are available every week during the semester at times that will be most convenient for you as a student.

UR Events:
Campus-wide UR Workshops and Talks will take place in a HyFlex capacity.

Presentation Grants & Travel Policies:
At this time, CSB/SJU is allowing student travel. Undergraduate Research will continue to update students on our travel policies should the COVID-19 situation change. In general, we encourage students to make travel decisions that are best for their personal safety.

  • Making Accommodations: When making travel arrangements, please review refund policies for flights and lodging prior to booking. Undergraduate Research will not be able to refund pre-paid travel expenses if you are unable to travel to your presentation.
  • Vaccination: If a student chooses to travel to a conference and they are not vaccinated, they will need to quarantine upon return (at their own cost). In addition, students should be aware that quarantine's impact on courses; there may be some courses where virtual participation may not be possible (e.g. labs) and you will need to make arrangements with your instructors should you need to miss class. Instructors will make accommodations for you at their own discretion; Undergraduate Research is not at fault for academic impacts based on your travel decisions.
  • CDC guidance for travel: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html

In general, we encourage you to visit the CSB/SJU Covid-19 website for the most up-to-date information.
