Rebecca Fandrich

Becky was a theology major and a secondary education minor at CSB/SJU.

Why would one choose to be a theology major or minor here at CSB/SJU?

As a First Year Student, I chose to be a Theology major because I wanted to be a High School Religion teacher. Now, as a Senior, I reflect on the growth I have experienced, the push towards deeper levels of thinking, and the comfort I felt to always stay true to who I am. Theology is "faith seeking understanding," and during my time here, I know that I have taken steps toward a deeper faith, and a much higher understanding.

What impact has your theology major or minor had on you as a person?

Becoming a Theology Major has pushed me beyond my comfort zone, and really made me aware of the impact we can have on the world, whether that be researching a topic, presenting it or just analyzing it. My critical thinking skills and my desire for deep discussions have increased through my time here. I have grown in confidence, and definitely have a deeper love of my faith.

What do you love about being a theology major or minor?

I love the people I have met, and the friends I have made. I started my Theology major during my first year, at the same time as three gentlemen, and from our first classes, to our last class, we have always been in the same Theology classes. I have grown in my faith with these men, and we have grown together as people. The Department is absolutely filled with professors that care not only about their area, but care about you as a person. You can learn all the knowledge you could dream about here at CSB/SJU, but the support system that is provided in this Department is beyond words. My experience would not be the same without the wonderful people whom I have met here in the Theology Department, and the students, who are majoring and minoring in Theology, whom I am lucky enough to call my friends!
