The
Sustainability & Resilience
Revolving Fund

The
Green Fund

The SRRF provides financial capital to support projects that promote environmental, social, and financial sustainability and resilience at CSB. The SRRF will be self-sustaining and perpetuated through the reinvestment of the cost savings generated through its projects.

If a project will provide cost savings with a payback period of 5 years or less once implemented, it should be proposed to the SRRF.

The Green Fund is an annual fund that supports projects that promote environmental sustainability at CSB. Projects should contribute to the goals of Strategic Directions & Sustainability Directions while connecting to CSB’s Benedictine Values.

If a project will likely not produce significant cost savings or will likely have a payback period longer than 5 years, it should be proposed to the Green Fund.

The
Sustainability & Resilience
Revolving Fund

CSB and SJU’s Sustainability & Resilience Revolving Fund (SRRF) provides financial capital to support innovative projects proposed by members of the CSB/SJU community which promote sustainability and resilience on campus by increasing conservation and efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and the consumption of resources, and creating valuable educational opportunities. The SRRF will be self-sustaining and perpetuated through the reinvestment of the cost savings generated through its projects. As the fund grows over time, it can support even more projects!

The Sustainable Revolving Loan Fund can be used for zero-interest loans to projects with cost savings with a return of 5 years or less. These cost savings pay back the fund and help it grow. As the fund grows, more and larger projects can be initiated. There is a multitude of ways we can decrease the consumption of energy, water, and products at SJU. More often than not, reducing our impact on the environment reduces the operating cost of our institution. Anyone is welcome to submit a proposal.

The SRRF aims to:

  • Empower students, faculty, staff, administrators, and others in the CSB/SJU community to be proactive and engaged in creating a more sustainable and resilient world.
  • Provide a mechanism that CSB can use to invest in itself by capitalizing on the long-term profitability of conservation, efficiency, sustainability, and resilience projects.
  • Cover the initial costs of these projects while securing the financial return they produce to fund future initiatives, making such projects increasingly more feasible over time.
  • Demonstrate that investment in sustainability and resilience projects is an influential method of practicing fiscal responsibility.
  • Catalyze the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, with an ultimate goal of carbon neutrality.
  • Model advantageous approaches to sustainability and resilience for other educational institutions, organizations, businesses, governmental bodies, and individuals in our local, regional, state, national, and global communities.

The
Green Fund

The CSB/SJU Green Fund is an annual fund that serves as a resource to support sustainability initiatives generated by students, faculty, staff, and the monastic community, benefiting the campus and the overall college community. This includes the work of the Sustainability Office, which works to promote and coordinate most sustainability efforts. This fund should be used to add value to the sustainability program rather than for purposes of budget relief.

The CSB Green Fund will be used for the following purposes:

  • Projects should promote environmental sustainability at CSB.
  • Projects should contribute to the goals of Strategic Directions & Sustainability Directions while connecting to CSB's Benedictine Values.
  • If a project will provide cost savings with a payback period of 5 years or less once implemented, it should be proposed to the Sustainability & Resilience Revolving Fund instead.

Any member of the CSB/SJU community may propose a project!

  • Step 1: Have a great idea! Submit it to the CSB/SJU Sustainability Office using the form above.
  • Step 2: The CSB/SJU Sustainability Office will receive it, review it, and work with you to develop your project proposal using the SRRF Charter and SRRF Proposal Form OR the Green Fund Proposal Form until it's satisfactory.
  • Step 3: The CSB/SJU Sustainability Office will accept your proposal and send it to the SRRF Committee or the Sustainability Council for individual review.
  • Step 4: The SRRF or Sustainability Council will meet to discuss and vote on approving funding for proposals. It is highly recommended you attend this meeting to represent your project!
