Examining the Contents of the New Roman Missal

The Threefold Judgment and Musical Settings of the Mass

The 1972 document Music in Catholic Worship provided musicians and liturgists a framework for evaluating the appropriateness of music in the liturgy; this “threefold judgment” – the musical, the liturgical and the pastoral – is also found in the 2007 document Sing to the Lord.  Fr. Joncas’ address will call us to keep these principles before us as we begin the task of selecting new and revised musical settings of the Mass.
